Three conventions to learn.

  1. A, B and C identify the same three futures throughout. They all connect to one origin.
  2. A percentage is expressive attention, not probability. Every future stays available at or above 10%.
  3. The total is 100%. Raising one allocation redistributes the remaining attention among the others in proportion to their amounts above the floor.

For example: start with A 20%, B 50%, C 30%. Give A 40%. B becomes 36.7% and C 23.3%. All three stay available. The extra room for A has come from somewhere.

What this may tell me.

After learning three local conventions, can a reader identify shared origin, retained alternatives and coupled emphasis in unfamiliar allocations?

Method & limitations

The two presentations carry the same information. This is practice in reading an authored constraint, not a test of intuition about hope or loss.

  • Self-selected visitors, no random assignment and no response collection.
  • Repeating the demonstration teaches its answers; repeated attempts are not independent.
  • Both conditions carry the same numerical and relational information. The visual condition also contains labels and percentages, so this does not isolate language-free understanding.
  • The exercise tests learned local conventions, not general superiority, emotional meaning, equivalence of sound and image, or a language for all minds.

A real comparison would pre-register new cases, counterbalance or randomise conditions, recruit independent readers, document accessibility and prior familiarity, and publish errors and failures alongside successes.
